M2 Labs is a combination of Nick’s family history and Jonathon’s last name. The "M2," referred to as "Mike Squared," honors the RAF Avro Lancaster B Mk. III Heavy Bomber - ED888/PM-M2 "Mike Squared," No. 103 Squadron, RAF Elsham Wolds, Lincoln, which Nick’s grandfather, serving with the 103rd Squadron, was the last to fly after WWII, with "M2" painted on the fuselage.
The "Labs" portion of M2 Labs combines Jonathon’s last name, "Labadie," and reflects the idea of a "lab" in their pursuit of innovative technology and products. A complete history on this airplane series and even the actual plane flown can be found HERE.
Nick's journey began in the broadcast industry on Australia’s East Coast, where he mastered the essentials of RF technology, electrical engineering, and the art of keeping a network running smoothly. Music was always in the background—whether he was listening or jamming with friends. As his career progressed, Nick sharpened his skills in streamlining manufacturing, opening several factories in Hong Kong for leading brands in the RF Test & Measurement space. This experience eventually led him to the U.S., where he applied his expertise and learned to thrive in the competitive RF industry. Nick’s innovative approach to designing and manufacturing equipment helped solve problems the industry didn’t even realize it had. After several career moves, Nick took the leap and started his own business. He had developed a groundbreaking way to filter RF frequencies in a form factor a tenth the size of traditional equipment. It was during this time that he crossed paths with Jonathon through collaborating companies in the RF space, sparking a connection that would shape the next chapter of their careers.
Jonathon’s passion for music began in childhood. Growing up in rural Georgia, he often dreamed of bigger possibilities. At 13, he picked up the guitar and was instantly hooked. In his 20s, he pursued his professional dreams with determination, gaining valuable experience across different fields—from graphic design to watchmaking and the service industry. These diverse paths shaped him into who he is today. All the while, Jonathon played countless shows with several bands, fueling his deep love for performing. His passion eventually expanded into music production and recording, where he found new ways to express his creativity and hone his craft. In 2014, Jonathon crossed paths with Nick while working for a company that distributed Nick’s RF filters to the wireless market. Nick quickly became a mentor, offering guidance, knowledge, and experience that further fueled Jonathon’s growth both personally and professionally.
Jonathon and Nick knew from the start they wanted to work together. Right from that first conversation, it was clear they shared the same vision and respect for each other’s skills. Jonathon, full of fresh ideas and passion in the wireless market, found in Nick a mentor who not only understood the RF business but saw promise in Jonathon’s raw talent. With his years of experience, Nick guided Jonathon through the complex landscape of the industry, teaching him the importance of precision and perseverance.
But Nick’s mentorship went beyond just passing on knowledge. It was about collaboration and encouraging Jonathon to think outside the box. They spent hours brainstorming, trying out new approaches, and challenging each other’s perspectives. Nick was always hands-on, working side by side with Jonathon on projects, showing him how theory translates into practice. Over time, their partnership grew into a strong, dynamic synergy, blending Jonathon’s fresh outlook with Nick’s expertise. Their bond, built on trust, respect, and a shared passion for innovation, only deepened with each passing year.
Ten years later, their journey led to the creation of M2 Labs. This wasn’t just another business—it was the result of their combined dreams and aspirations. They wanted M2 Labs to be a place where musicians could find the tools they needed to express themselves in new ways. Their goal was to bridge the gap between traditional music production and cutting-edge technology, offering products that were innovative yet easy to use. They hoped M2 Labs would quickly become a go-to for musicians wanting to push creative boundaries, a place where tech and creativity worked together seamlessly.
The spirit of M2 Labs reflects the journey Nick and Jonathon have been on. Their products showcase the craftsmanship and innovation they’ve honed over the years, with each one designed to meet, and even exceed, the needs of musicians. Their shared vision of empowering musicians through technology is evident in every aspect of the company. From the way they work together to how they focus on their customers, M2 Labs is a testament to their commitment to creativity and innovation in the music industry. The company’s success is a direct result of the enduring partnership between Jonathon and Nick—two people united by a common dream and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
